The hairdressing and beauty sector in the EU is dominated by small companies with, on average, fewer than three workers.

People working in this sector are exposed to different occupational safety and health (OSH) risks, such as skin diseases and musculoskeletal disorders linked to wet hand work, the use of cosmetic products and sharp instruments, standing for long periods of time, as well as dealing with difficult clients.

Understanding the challenges specific to the sector and tackling them is essential to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for these workers.

20 Online interactive Risk Assessment (OiRA) tools from all over Europe have been tailored for micro and small enterprises in the hairdressing and beauty sector. They are available in multiple languages to support businesses in assuring good OSH for their workers!
